As one of the Big Three in denim, the story of Wrangler goes long back. It started out in 1904 as the Hudson Overall Company, founded by the two Hudson brothers. Eventually, after some success, they changed their name to the Blue Bell Overall Company in 1919. The brothers specialized in workwear and were especially celebrated for their quality denim overalls. In the thirties they were one of the first to apply the process of sanforization to the fabrics of their denim overalls, making sure the overalls wouldn’t shrink after washing. The real big success was thanks to a new style of denim they developed after the WWII, a pair of jeans. In collaboration with the
well known cowboy tailor Rodeo Ben they created the first pair of jeans that went by the name of Wrangler, the name the company is know known with. Their first model of jeans was No. 11MW. All of the blue jeans crafted at the time were either made from left-hand or right-hand denim twill, which always had the downside of “twisting legs”. In 1964 Wrangler launched their new model 13MWZ, which was made with the revolutionary broken-twill fabric. A denim fabric with a zig-zag construction that prevents the legs of a pair from turning after use. Until today the company and its name are well recognized by many, although their heydays probably have passed already.
