Journal de Nîmes Nº8 - The Made in Europe Issue
Tenue de Nîmes have released its 8th Journal de Nîmes today: The Made in Europe issue. Two of the many highlights of this issue are a portrait of the legendary French knitwear label Armor Lux and the interview with Tim Little, Creative Director of British Shoemaker Grenson. Another must-read is an extensive piece in which Tenue de Nîmes asked influencers like Maurizio Donadi (Senior VP Levi’s XX) and Gert Jonkers (Editor in Chief of Fantastic Man) to tell us all about their personal European icons. And then there is the article on Travelteq, A Dutch brand that makes accessories that satisfy the needs of the 21st century traveler.
Tenue de Nîmes & Momotaro in Japanese Magazine Lightning
Our friends at Momotaro asked us if we wanted to be featured in the Japanese magazine Lightning. Well, that is a rhetorical question I believe. For us denim heads there is nothing more credible than Japanese magazines like Lightning or Free & Easy in terms of denim and style.
The Lightning crew asked us to share our favorite pair of denim with the their readers. Rene and I selected the Momotaro E007-2B: We absolutely love this highly unusual jeans with an indigo warp and a sulphur black weft. The warp is manipulated to give it the blue/green tone of natural indigo after secular distortion. The pink color inseam and selvage refer to the 'Momo', or peach in Japanese. The silhouette of this jeans is the same as 0705SP. The rise is medium low; the leg is tight and straight.
As soon as the magazine goes to press we will update you guys with a Dutch spread in this Japanese magazine.
Print 2.0 - Journal de Nîmes interviewed by Hypebeast.
Hypebeast's Eugene Kan interviewed us a few months ago on the redefinition of the 'Print Craft'. Kan was wondering if print is a dying specialty, or simply a medium that changed dramatically. To get an idea of what sort of views and beliefs are routed in both the young and established print world Eugene Kan at Hypebeast interviewed Clark Magazine’s Romain Dauriac, Inventory’s Ryan Willms, Green Soccer Journal’s Adam Towle, HIDDEN CHAMPION’s Hidenori Matsuoka and yours truly: Tenue de Nîmes’ Menno van Meurs. Here is a brief highlight from the interview:
EK: The iPad and other digital tablets were slated to be a saving grace for print magazine, but initial numbers have not been up to par. What really is the future of magazines?
MM: I believe the coffee table magazine can never be totally replaced by an iPad. There are some crucial aspects to print that a tablet will not be able to replace any time soon. First of all a lot of magazine aficionados want to collect the physical publications. Next to that people appreciate the touch of a magazine. The physical look and feel adds value to the reading experience. Then, as Marc Tumson, our Production Manager, said something really nice last week about the advantage off print, ‘You will never have to worry that it runs out of battery, you can easily fold it, put in in your bag, spill some coffee while reading, put in on a shelf to just look at it. It is pure romance!'".

Second Harvest Japan Update
Our Journal de Nîmes correspondent Anneke Beerkens sent us an email last week that the first goods were bought with the money she raised so far for Second Harvest Japan. SHJ sends two trucks full of food and other basic survival gear to the North of Japan. We are very proud that Anneke is part of this initiative and we would like to ask you (if you have not yet purchased a Journal de Nîmes Nº7 so far) to buy a magazine from us to support the core team.
If you would like to buy a magazine please send us your request to secondharvestjapan[at]tenuedenimes.com. The full amount will be donated directly to Anneke, who will spend your money with the amazing guys at Second Harvest Japan. If you wish to learn more about this initiative have a look at their website or follow them on Twitter.
We hope for your support.

Our new Journal de Nîmes has been welcomed with some great enthusiasm from all over the world. Denim and style aficionado's from all kinds of countries have read the new North American Issue online the past couple of days. Today was worth another toast. We officially shipped our first box of magazines to our friends at J.Crew this morning. They will stock the new Journal in their NYC based menswear stores. The image shows one of our favorite NYC retail stops: the Liquor Store at West Broadway.

Journal de Nîmes Nº7 - The North American Issue
Tenue de Nîmes have released its 7th Journal de Nîmes today: The North American issue. Two of the many highlights of this issue are a portrait of Cone Denim and the New Haven Math Club photo-shoot for Gant Rugger. Another must-read is an extensive piece in which Tenue de Nîmes asked influencers like Andy Spade and Alain de Botton to tell us all about their personal North American icons. And then there is our Japan correspondent Anneke Beerkens, who analyzed the Japanese passion for America and all things American in her article 'Amekaji' while Japan was hit by the earthquake.
2nd The Red Wing Book
2nd published a Red Wing special recently because of the enormous success of the American brand in Japan. We are seriously considering a Japanese language course because this 2ND issue will be full of the best Red Wing stories for sure. Available soon at Red Wing Amsterdam. Reservations can be made! Source and images SLAMXHYPE. Thank you Florian and Marc for sharing.
Men's File
The new Men's File magazine has finally been released and it was worth the waiting. The theme of this month's release is 'Tweed and Navy', but the magazine is another ode to anything that style consists of. In the third issue MF did something extraordinary: they managed to get the prestigious (and mysterious) the RRL brand to show something of their selves. Put on top of that an interview with Nigel Cabourn, a profile of Brian Bent and so much more, that the only thing we can advise you is: Get you copy now! Enjoy the preview below.
Free & Easy
It has been a wild ride over the past couple of months. New projects, new impressions, new playgrounds - all extraordinary, but energy absorbing. Therefore one has to get away from all of that every once in a while. Sometimes chaos makes you want to disappear into the great outdoors. The forest for instance, is a place where all worries seem to disappear. Therefore the new Free & Easy came as an unexpected source of inspiration this month. The new issue is full of wooden cabins, country houses and legendary wooden interiors (Japan style of course). Forget the city people - what we really need is to be outdoor!
Inventory 3
Last Friday we received the latest issue of Inventory magazine. The issue has a little Dutch flavor since Maurizio Donadi, Senior Vice President at Levi's XX, is on one of the two covers. He was interviewed in his Amsterdam office at the Dutch Olympic Stadium.
Although this Inventory is a little less thick than the previous editions, it takes only a second to determine I will not be leaving the house for the next three nights. Get your copy at Tenue de Nîmes.
