Menno van Meurs
Co-Founder Tenue de Nîmes
I am co-founder at both Tenue de Nîmes and Red Wing shoe store Amsterdam. Although trained as a marketeer, I decided to listen to my heart and combine my two passions of several years: retail and denim. In 2008, my childhood friend Rene and I opened our first denim store on the Elandsgracht in the heart of Amsterdam. Business aside I am the proud father of two and I do like to call myself a sports fanatic. My companion Rene and I are compulsive collectors of all things made with attention to form, functionality, craftsmanship and most of all love and care.
Our collection, by the name of Tenue de Nîmes Archives is inspired by Modern Vintage from the 1950s, '60s and '70s, vintage watches, books, indigo objects and naturally anything denim. At Tenue de Nîmes I am responsible for marketing, PR, new business and brand development of the company. On Saturdays I do what I like best: selling jeans in the second Tenue de Nîmes store on the Haarlemmerstraat which opened in September 2012. Please find below some of my ultimate favorites I'd like to share with you that keep me going on a day-to-day basis! I hope you will enjoy them and please feel free to get in touch.
Travelling is one of the most amazing aspects of the business that we chose. This picture was taken by Joachim In Los Angeles, CA. It was one of the many great trips we made last year.
My Daughter Lila
My daughter means everything to me. During Father's Day she put on this tattoo saying 'Dad' which she refused to wash off for weeks. When we finally made her do it she simply said to us: But why don't you wash off yours too?
There's Only One Porsche / Urban Outlaw Video
Our friend Jonathan Carrol shared this amazing video with us. It is an amazing portrait of a couple specialised in restoring old Porsche 911 cars. I admire their unique sense of quality, focus and most of all their unbelievable craftsmanship.
Radiohead - Live at the Basement
This video shows the greatness of my favourite band like nothing else. Make sure you actually watch the video as you listen because the way every single 'sound' was played live really changed my view of this amazing band.
Motto: Live in creation, not in reaction
If there is one thing I have learned in life it is that we are capable of anything, as long as we believe in it. I believe we owe it to ourselves to create and live our dreams.
In the early 1940's Charles Eames and his wife Ray experimented with wood molding techniques that would have a major impact on the design world. This is my absolute favourite piece: The LCW (Lounge Chair Wood) from the first run made by Evans.
